Pianist Gisela Mabel will participate in "Earthworks", by Mónica de Miranda, with "Mútuo" (“Mutual”), which is born from the reciprocity between the particular and the universal. "Mútuo" (“Mutual”) is a performance that mediates connections and catalyzes an emotional, sensory experience and joint perception, summoning attention, listening and community presence, and conveying the dehierarchized idea that each individual influences the collective. The performance stimulates this immaterial dialogue between the reminiscences of the past and the infinite hypotheses of becoming.

“I want to live in Gisela Mabel’s music.”
"Listening to Gisela is like seeing her become music. It’s not just about the rhythm of her fingers on the keys, nor about the notes the piano keeps exclaiming. It’s her whole body translating feelings. She sways when the rhythm calls for it, softly vocalizes during gentle melodies, exhales voraciously when the notes rush forward in the urgency of an outpouring. Her face follows every turn, every nuance, and we, as spectators, enter that intimacy with her."

Gisela Mabel: musical portraits of an identity in progress
A piano without a label, but with soul: Gisela Mabel doesn’t fit into a single genre. Her music defies easy labels: it’s not jazz, nor classical, nor purely contemporary; it’s not just Portuguese, nor solely Afro-Brazilian. It is all of that, and more — a synthesis of lived experiences and cultural legacies, from the conservatory to improvisation, from discipline to freedom, from theory to feeling.
In Gisela’s hands, the piano becomes an extension of her body and memory. In Álbum de Retratos, each track is an attempt to name the invisible. The duality between peace and anguish, serenity and intensity, is present in every note, in every silence. It’s music that listens to the world before interpreting it.

Names like Luedji Luna and Adi Oasis have already passed through, making it a kind of sonic sanctuary in the heart of the city. A collaboration with Salve Salve Studio, which brought out every nuance of the performance — embracing the ambient sounds as part of the composition: the wind rustling through the trees, the birdsong, the humming, and even Mabel’s breath, making everything feel more organic, more intimate. The recording was led by Renato Godoy, who has worked with icons of Brazilian music such as Jorge Ben Jor and Gilberto Gil.

NEW RELEASE: TRANSLUCENT
TRANSLUCENT — is a musical journey that reflects the introspective and reflective process of someone seeking understanding and inner strength. The piece begins in a very pure form, with the piano strings accompanied by the soft sound of water, symbolising the flow of life. The piano, in turn, represents the soul of this person, immersed in their deepest thoughts, searching for answers and a connection with themselves. As the music unfolds, the introduction of tribal beats brings a new, more primal, and visceral energy—a reflection of the awakening of this person’s animal spirit. The music transforms into a spiritual dance, where mind and body begin to align with the energy of life. The track concludes with the feeling that, even after the internal struggle, there remains a renewing power and a vital force that never fades.

Perhaps it is a bit of all these northern winds. From her education at the Conservatory to her hands-on training in jazz, from her love for Brazil to the maternal heritage of Angola, the piano becomes an extension not just of the body but of a story still discovering its own face through music.

Live Session at Chez Georges Rio de Janeiro, Brasil
Gisela Mabel has just released an exclusive live session, recorded at the iconic Chez Georges, in the heart of Rio de Janeiro. A space where brutalism blends with the tropical essence of the city, offering a breathtaking view over Guanabara Bay. With its remarkable natural acoustics, it has hosted intimate sessions and recordings by artists who move between Brazil and the world.

It's not jazz, classical, or contemporary. It's neither Portuguese nor Afro-Brazilian. So what is this music, unraveled like a serene whirlwind flying from the hands of Gisela Mabel?
Perhaps it is a bit of all these northern winds. From her education at the Conservatory to her hands-on training in jazz, from her love for Brazil to the maternal heritage of Angola, the piano becomes an extension not just of the body but of a story still discovering its own face through music.
